For all of us that are fans of the LA Lakers, whether you watch games casually whenever you can or you endulge all of your senses in the purple and golden glory this franchise has to offer, we all have one thing in common; we want to see this team hold up yet another championship trophy for the west coast.
So, what happened in Phoenix on tuesday? Most of us don't want to remember, but here's a short, painful refresher... The Lake's came out ready to play and the Suns came out ready to win. The normal ongoing characteristic of Laker basketball was notable in the first half as it was a bit of a struggle because they had trouble getting in sync offensively as a whole. The starting five were off to a slow start; Pau Gasol was being pushed around under the basket on both ends of the floor, and Kobe was nearly absent in the first quarter, but he completely dominated in the second quarter. Phoenix felt confident in their high pick-n-roll play and continued to run it all night confusing Andrew Bynum each and everytime. Phoenix ended the half on top by involving more than three-quarters of their squad. The third quarter finally rolls around and the Black Mamba continued to step up his game, but the rest of the team continued to step down. Kobe ended the third quarter with 31 points bringing the lakers within arms length of getting the 'W'.
Regardless of your preference between the Phoenix Suns and the Los Angeles Lakers, I think we can all agree that the referees wanted Phoenix to win even more than Alvin Gentry wanted to win. Bad call after bad call put the Lake Show in foul trouble at the very beginning of the fourth quarter. Three consecutive high pick-n-roll plays in a row resulting in nine straight points sealed the deal. The Suns took the lead and the win as Kobe looked confused by his teammates' lack of effort in putting the ball in his hands.
What's going to happen on the court in game 5 and can Phoenix stretch the series to game 7?
